why cannes

la croisette glamour, five minutes from forville's real market.

The light in Cannes hits different. It bounces off the white Belle Époque hotels and the superyachts in the harbour, making everything feel like a film set long after the celebrities have flown home. The daily ritual is simple: a walk along La Croisette, where the names on the boutiques—Chanel, Dior, Hermès—are as famous as the ones on the festival posters. You can hear the clink of ice in rosé glasses from the beach clubs from ten in the morning.

But the performance stops a few blocks from the sea. The Marché Forville is a riot of Provençal reality, smelling of ripe cheese, lavender, and the sea. Climb the winding medieval streets of Le Suquet, the old town, and the view reminds you this was a fishing village long before it was a backdrop. The quiet here is a welcome contrast to the hum of the Croisette below.

This is not a budget destination. The private beach clubs charge for the privilege of better sand, and a simple lunch can feel like a splurge. But that's the deal you make with Cannes. It’s for when you want to dress up for dinner and feel like the main character for a few days.

Best for a sharp 2-3 night hit of glamour, or as a polished base to explore the wilder parts of the coast.
