This isn't the Berlin of graffiti-covered warehouses and 48-hour parties. Charlottenburg is the city's composed, confident alter ego. You feel it on the Kurfürstendamm, the grand shopping boulevard where the sound isn't techno but the polite click of heels on pavement and the murmur from cafe terraces. It’s a neighbourhood of monumental Altbau apartment buildings with ceilings so high you could fly a kite.

The anchor is Schloss Charlottenburg, a proper Prussian palace with sprawling, manicured gardens that offer a quiet escape. But the real neighbourhood lives in the streets around Savignyplatz, a hub of bookstores, galleries, and restaurants that have been serving schnitzel and riesling for decades.
