why czech republic

most of it is prague. a car opens up the rest.

Imagine a country where you can drink better beer for less money than almost anywhere else in Europe, explore medieval castles without fighting quite so many crowds, and hike through sandstone mountains that look like something out of a fairy tale. That's the Czech Republic.

Prague gets the attention, and deservedly so. Charles Bridge at dawn is as magical as everyone says. But the country is more than just its capital. Bohemian Switzerland National Park, a two-hour drive north, feels like another world — towering rock formations, deep forests, the sound of the wind in the trees. South Moravia produces wines that rival Burgundy (seriously). Olomouc is what people think Prague was like before the tourists arrived.

The catch? Prague in peak season is packed. The smaller towns can feel sleepy if you're used to 24/7 energy. And while English is widely spoken in Prague, knowing a few basic Czech phrases will go a long way in the countryside.

Go in shoulder season (May-June or September-October) to avoid the worst of the crowds and still enjoy pleasant weather. Pair with Vienna or Berlin for a central European itinerary.
