Think of Da Nang as the practical hub for central Vietnam. The beach is miles long, the seafood is incredible, and the city just *works*. It lacks the ancient charm of Hoi An, but it's a more comfortable basecamp for exploring the region. Fly in, eat well, then hit the road.
the stays we’d put our own family in first.

My Khe beach is so long and wide it feels like it could absorb the entire city behind it. On one side of the road is sand and surf stretching to the horizon; on the other, a modern city of glass towers, wide boulevards, and ambitious bridges. At night, the Dragon Bridge breathes actual fire, and the air smells of salt and grilling prawns from the seafood joints lining the coast.
Da Nang isn't the Vietnam you've seen in old films. It's clean, organized, and efficient. This is its strength and, for some, its weakness. The chaotic, charming soul of the country lives 45 minutes down the road in Hoi An's lantern-lit alleys. What you sacrifice in ancient atmosphere here, you gain in convenience. The traffic is manageable, the resorts are world-class, and it’s an unapologetically easy place to travel.
But don't just pass through. Climb the stone steps of the Marble Mountains to find cave temples and sweeping views. Eat a bowl of *mi quang*, the turmeric-laced noodle dish that defines the region. Ride a scooter up the winding roads of the Son Tra Peninsula.
Use it as your basecamp. Fly in, spend two nights recovering from the flight and eating incredible seafood, then make day trips. It’s the smart way to do central Vietnam.
