why pâquis geneva

jet d'eau erupts by the lake. a five-minute walk links them all.

The right bank of the lake — Pâquis behind the quay, Quai du Mont-Blanc along the water — is where Geneva concentrates its grand-hotel inventory. The Beau-Rivage has been here since 1865; Four Seasons des Bergues since 1834. The Jet d'Eau erupts directly in front of these hotels. Mont Blanc is visible on clear winter mornings.

The neighbourhood itself is mixed: south of the train station Pâquis is a working immigrant district with cheap kebab shops and red-light fringes (avoid the blocks immediately south-east of Cornavin at night), while the lakefront strip is pure five-star elegance. The contrast is jarring but the hotels themselves are bubbles.

For first-time Geneva visitors who want the big-hotel-on-the-lake experience, this is the only honest answer.
