chaweng
vana belle luxury collection
A top-tier choice for those who want the proximity to Samui's energy without being in the middle of it.
typically
₹36kper night
The east coast is the busiest, most familiar version of Samui — long open beaches facing the morning sun, shop-lined main roads behind the sand, and the kind of evening energy that's missing from the rest of the island. Chaweng's six-kilometre strip is the centre of everything: most hotels, most bars, most shopping, the island's only proper nightlife.
the stays we’d put our own family in first.

Lamai sits 15 minutes south — Chaweng's calmer, cheaper sibling. Smaller crowds, more Thai locals than tourists, a surf scene in monsoon shoulder months when the waves come up. The beach is good but the village is unfussy.
What you trade for the energy is exposure. The east coast catches the worst of the late-monsoon (October-December) — the biggest wind, the choppiest water, the longest grey stretches. In peak dry season (Dec-Mar) it's perfect; in shoulder, it's hit-or-miss.
Best for first-time Samui visitors who want the postcard Thai beach with restaurants, shopping, and bars to walk to; for friends groups; and for teens who would be bored on the quieter coasts. Skip if you're here for cliff villas, design hotels, or honeymoon quiet — those live elsewhere on the island.
