why sukhumvit

malls and massage along the bts line. convenient, not authentic.

Sukhumvit Road stretches from downtown Bangkok all the way to the Cambodian border — over 400km. Most visitors, however, will only experience a few kilometres of it, the stretch between Soi 1 and Soi 71. This is the heart of modern Bangkok: glass towers, elevated train lines, and a relentless stream of traffic.

It's not the prettiest neighbourhood. It's not the most authentic. But it is undeniably useful. You can find almost anything you need here: international restaurants, rooftop bars, cheap massages, luxury hotels, and enough shopping malls to max out your credit cards. The street food is excellent, if a little less adventurous than in other parts of the city — pad thai, mango sticky rice, boat noodles. You won't go hungry.

The BTS Skytrain runs the length of Sukhumvit, making it easy to get around. But traffic is still a factor — avoid rush hour if you can. Stay near a BTS station for maximum convenience. Asoke and Nana are central and busy. Phrom Phong and Thonglor are more upscale. Ekkamai and On Nut are further out but offer better value.

Best for first-timers who want a comfortable base for exploring the city. Not for those seeking a local experience.
