why thailand

split the trip: cool north, then a beach. flights are short.

Thailand hits you in waves: the heat, the humidity, the scent of jasmine and diesel, the gold-leaf temples glinting in the sun. It's a country of contrasts — chaotic cities giving way to tranquil rice paddies, ancient ruins standing in the shadow of modern skyscrapers, street food stalls next to Michelin-starred restaurants.

Bangkok is the obvious starting point, but don't stop there. Head north to Chiang Mai for elephant sanctuaries and misty mountains. Explore the ancient capital of Ayutthaya. Island-hop in the south, but venture beyond the tourist hotspots. Koh Lanta is more laid-back than Phuket, Koh Tao is better for diving than Koh Samui.

The food is the star. From fiery curries to sweet mango sticky rice, Thai cuisine is a symphony of flavors and textures. Don't be afraid to try street food — it's often the best and cheapest. Just look for stalls with long queues of locals.

Best time to visit is November to February, when the weather is cooler and drier. But be prepared for crowds, especially during peak season. Consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (March-May or September-October) for fewer tourists and lower prices. Just be aware that it can be hot and humid during these times.
